About GARNet
GARNet
was created as part of the BBSRC Investigating Gene Function (IGF) to ensure
that functional genomic technologies are available to wide audience. GARNet
has promoted and supported services such as transciptome analysis, bioinformatics,
metabolite profiling, proteome analysis and reverse and forward genetics for
the Arabidopsis community
The success and uptake of these GARNet services by the community has lead
to their conversion to full cost recovery and self sufficiency, such that
GARNet no longer directly manages applications to these services. However
information about these services and how to access them is still maintained
on this site click here. All GARNet services
and resources are publicly available, and data created using the GARNet resources
are freely distributed via databases designed and held at NASC
and AtIDb.
GARNet has therefore played an important part in promoting the adoption of
functional genomics methods in the UK Arabidopsis community. However as plant
scientists begin to make the transition from functional genomics to systems
biology GARNet must also evolve and assist the community in adopting integrative
systems levels approaches that will be required to remain competitive in this
new era.
To
achieve this GARNet will:-
i) Maintain its support of existing services and resources
ii) Promote the establishment of new services required by the community
iii) Collate and distribute information on functional genomics services, resources
and methods via this website, the GARNish Newsletter and the annual meeting.
iv) Provide community representation via the GARNet committee.
v) Enhance UK participation in international Arabidopsis research by acting
a single point of contact.
vi) Increase collaboration between UK plant scientists via the annual meeting,
workshops and liaise with other model and crop co-ordinators.
